About

Future

If this version of app attracts a lot of users and gets more positive feedback, we will seek additional funding to further improve the app, add more features, and keep the competition going. Pending funding, we also plan to invite a randomly selected subset of users to take part in a paid survey study to help evaluate Sapphic Savvy’s potential impact on well-being and inform future versions of the app! Stay tuned…

Present

Our 2019 users submitted a bunch of ideas for ways to improve the app. After Covid, sought more funding and secured a large NIH grant under the Biden Adminstration. Then Trump came into office and terminated our grant this past March. Luckily, 75% of the app was already complete and we were able to get a small grant to fund prizes.

History

The Sapphic Stereotype Challenge concept started back in 2018 when we used funding from a small grant to develop a low budget web app called LezParlay. In 2019, 2,500+ sapphics toook part in the competition with 93% of users surveyed reporting psychological benefits!

Why Now?

We made the app to be something fun and helpful to our community in the context of the stressful, expensive, and divisive times in which we are living. As Project 2025 tries to bring us down, it's a critical time to affirm sapphic identities, foster community connection, and provide free resources to support well-being.

Who Created This?

Sapphic Savvy is a not-for-profit, grant-funded project of a group of Sapphic psychologists based in Los Angeles. We are in our 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, and will be playing along hoping to see some stereotypes get shattered!
