Backstory

About the
Project

Sapphic Savvy was developed by a group of lesbian & queer psychologists in Los Angeles. This is a not-for-profit, grant-funded project intended to be something free, fun, and psychologically beneficial for Sapphics in response to the expensive, stressful, and divisive times in which we are living.

Check out the FAQ section to learn more about the project's history!

Future

If this version of Sapphic Savvy attracts a lot of users and positive feedback, we will seek additional funding to further improve and evaluate it! Users will be invited at random to take part in a longitudinal app feedback survey study. (participants can earn $200 for their completion of 4 online surveys.

Present

Our 2019 users submitted a bunch of ideas for ways to improve the app. Following Covid-related delays, we submitted a 2nd grant proposal in December 2023. We used this funding to create a more polished and fully featured app that incorporated everything users suggested.

History

The Sapphic Stereotype Challenge concept started back in 2018 when we used funding from a small grant to develop a low budget web app called LezParlay. In 2019, 2,500+ sapphics toook part in the competition with 93% of users surveyed reporting psychological benefits!

Why Now?

The competition and app's other features were crafted to be fun and helpful to sapphics in the context of the super stressful and divisive hellscape in which we find ourselves. Seems like a great time to challenge stereotypes, foster community connection, and provide resources to support our well-being and sanity!

Who Created This?

Sapphic Savvy is a not-for-profit, fully grant-funded project of a group of Sapphic psychologists based in Los Angeles. We are in our 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, and will be playing along hoping to see some stereotypes get shattered!
